There are three basic ways to join a United Methodist Church:
Transfer-If you are a member of another United Methodist Church or a member of another denomination you can transfer your membership to Mayfield First United Methodist Church.
Reaffirmation of Faith-If you have been inactive for several years in your previous Church or are coming from a denomination that will not transfer membership, you can reaffirm your commitment to Christ and join Mayfield First United Methodist Church.
Profession of Faith-If you are first converting to Chrisitianity or have never publicly confessed faith in Jesus Christ, you can profess your faith and join Mayfield First United Methodist Church.
It needs to be known that at Mayfield First United Methodist Church we take membership very seriously. As a matter of fact, we believe that membership, far from having its privledges, comes with added commitment and expectations. As a regular attender, all of our services are available to you and our pastoral staff will minister to you. You will not be excluded from the life of the Church at all.
So why join the Church? Because it takes your commitment to Christ to the next level. Church membership signifies to all around you (and yourself in times of doubt) that you are, indeed, a member of the Body of Christ that has been in ministry and service to the world for 2000 years. It is a way to make a covenant with God, with God's people as witnesses, that you are serious about your faith and are seeking guidance, support, and encouragement in living out that faith and growing in it.
In short, membership is a lot like marriage. It says this relationship you have with God is more than just a fly-by-night affair that makes you feel good today. It is a life-long decision that you have made to follow Him.
Whether you are transferring your membership, reaffirming your faith, or making a profession of faith for the first time, all potential new members of Mayfield First United Methodist Church are required to attend a five-week New Members Class led by the Pastor. At the end of the class, you will be invited to join Mayfield First United Methodist Church.
